Various microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa, cause infections. One of the bacteria that caused the infection was Escherichia coli. Gram-negative bacteria can cause infections in the digestive tract, namely diarrhoea. One of the therapies for diarrhoea is antibiotics. However, consuming antibiotics in the long term can increase the risk of antibiotic resistance, urticaria, headaches and nausea. One of the traditional medicines used to relieve diarrhoea symptoms is soursop leaves (Annona muricata L), which have various secondary metabolite compounds that can kill bacteria.

Objectives and Methods: This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of soursop leaves (Annona muricata L) against Escherichia coli. The ultrasonic method is used to extract soursop leaves. Test antibacterial activity using the healthy diffusion method and determine the minimum inhibitory concentration using the diffusion method. Results: This study shows that soursop leaves have antibacterial activity through healthy diffusion tests with an average inhibition zone at a concentration of 0.5% of 6.59 mm, a concentration of 1% of 12.3 mm.

Results: the inhibition zone given ethanol extract of soursop leaves (EtAML) 0.5% has a moderate inhibition zone result, and EtAML 1% has a strong inhibition zone result.

Conclusion: This study concludes that soursop leaves (Annona muricata L) have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli with the results of ethanol extract of soursop leaves (EtAML) 0.5% having a moderate inhibition zone result and EtAML 1% having a solid inhibition zone result
alfian abdul rajab, Agus Putra Murdani, Dea Amanda Caressa Copyright (c) 2024 alfian abdul rajab, Agus Putra Murdani, Dea Amanda Caressa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.stikesbanyuwangi.ac.id/index.php/IJ-CALORY/article/view/410 Wed, 31 Jul 2024 00:00:00 +0000
